Did You Know?

The Canadian High Arctic research Station (CHARS) construction was done by EllisDon.

Benson Steel Fabricated and erected the structural steel, metal deck and all miscellaneous metals inside the building.

CHARS is a world-class hub for environmental science and technology in Canada’s North. The research station is a contribution to fulfill Canada’s vision for the North. The project also honors the northern tradition of respect for the land and the environment and will allow for the patrol and protection of Canada in the Arctic seas and sky.

It is located in Cambridge Bay, NU, a Hamlet with a population of approximately 1,600.

One of the challenges for the project was the shipping of the fabricated steel structure. Due to Ice conditions, ships travel there only once a year!
