Last week on October 10th, everyone had a great time at the 2025 Ontario Structural Steel fabricators Association (OSSFA) AGM Convention.
$71 500.00 were raised in sponsorships. These funds will go a long way towards OSSFA supporting the structural steel fabrication industry.

That night, six titans of the steel fabrication industry were recognized with the OSSFA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Benson Steel’s CEO, Stephen Benson, was one of those titans.
We are proud to announce that Stephen Benson was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ontario Structural Steel Fabricators Association (OSSFA). This honor recognizes his commitment and significant contributions to the advancement of the structural steel industry in Ontario, Canada, and abroad.
Throughout his distinguished career, Stephen has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and dedication to elevating and enhancing the safety standards and fabrication processes in the industry. His efforts have influenced and fostered innovation and excellence at all levels.
Stephen’s legacy is one of inspiring professionalism and enduring impact, and this award is a testament to his lifelong commitment to shaping the future of structural steel in Ontario.
Please join us in congratulating Stephen and all of the evening’s award winners: Mr. Tony Defina (Russel Metals), Mr. Paul Seibel (ACL Steel), Mr. Peter Xenias (Skyhawk Steel Group), Mr. Joe Kubes (Kubes Steel), and Mr. Zoran Radonjic (Pittsburgh Steel Group). on this well-deserved recognition for their remarkable career and ongoing influence in shaping a stronger, safer, and more innovative industry.

This past weekend (May 29th, 2022) Benson Steel and Royal Containers sponsored one of the main grassroots triathlon events in Ontario: The Caledon Kids of Steel triathlon.

In attendance was Canada's triathlon legend Simon Whitfield that over the years has become a personal friend of Steve Benson and Kim Nelson (owner of Royal Containers).

Together, Kim and Steve believe in the value of regular physical activity as a way to develop healthier communities, healthier homes and  to promote a sustainable lifestyle.

Over the years, Benson Steel and Royal Containers have supported a number of organizations, events and individuals (high performance athletes) through sponsorships.

Simon is an Olympic athlete, yes, but today he is much more than that. Amongst many other things he is a father, a mentor and an entrepreneur that builds sport education platforms to drive positive change in communities.

Andrew York is another one of the athletes that  Kim and Steve have supported. Andrew is from Caledon also. Today he is an Ontario Police Officer working in the most remote parts of the province providing safety, security and community governance to Northern Ontario.

These two men are examples of how, the support we provided in a moment in time helped these individuals become exceptional Canadians that represented our country in the greatest sport scenarios around the globe.

But, beyond that, we believe the experiences we helped create have prepared them to become the integral, caring, supportive, kind of people that without hesitation give back to the communities they live in. Their history and efforts help ensure that people they meet are inspired to become the best version of themselves they can be.

We congratulate Simon and Andrew and are thankful for being a small part of their journey.

We also believe the more we are able to communicate what Benson is about, the greater is our ability to reach new clients, sub trades and partners.

The words we believe and work to each day have made its way to one of our prominent walls in the office so anyone that comes to Benson can know the principles that drive our every day actions.

League of Champions (LOC)

Benson Steel has been a member of the League of Champions since 2016 when CEO and President, Stephen Benson agreed to be the very first subtrade to join the league. 

Craig Lesurf, TCA (Toronto Construction Association) Chair, made the invitation and presented Benson with this jersey at Benson’s bi-annual safety symposium in June 2016. The League of Champions Jersey is a symbol that represents: safety excellence and commitment.

Benson Steel has worked to inspire and influence workers, stake holders, partners and clients to commit, collaborate, and take action to improve safety culture through awareness, education, promotion, and recognition leading to safer construction workplaces in Ontario.

At the core of our work culture, safety is always the first priority. To ensure the highest level of safety at our manufacturing facility as well as on our job sites, we have an extensive Health, Safety, and Environment Program. 

In 2020 Benson completed our first IHSA COR audit and, after review, we have been presented our OFFICIAL COR Accreditation by IHSA. 

Certificate of Recognition (COR) is an accreditation program. It verifies that a construction-related company’s health and safety program has reached a national standard. In Ontario, Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) offers the Certificate of Recognition.

Together, the team at Benson works every day to achieve the goal of zero injuries in the workplace.

We are very proud of our commitment to safety and look forward to working with our clients and stakeholders to continuing to build a positive safety culture and environment.

An example of this is the use of a 3D print modelling tool that enabled us to design our own custom "V" support structures for the new L. F.Wade International Airport in Bermuda. We were able to test designs, and forecast cost/effect and performance of this structures for the rest of the project in a much more accurate way than using other conventional manufacturing techniques.

Offering efficiency, customizability, and accessibility to affordable production, 3D printing is changing the dynamics of how we make things. Today, innovative 3D printed products and solutions range from the formerly impossible to impractical ambitions designers and engineers could previously only dream of producing.
